Domestic Abuse in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP)

Domestic abuse affects people across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole and can happen to anyone, regardless of age, gender, background, or circumstances. It can be carried out by a partner, ex‑partner, or a family member and is often part of a pattern of behaviour used to gain power and control.

 

Domestic abuse is not acceptable, and support is available locally in BCP.

Our vision is that “no resident living in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, should live in fear of or experience domestic abuse”.

What is Domestic Abuse?

Domestic abuse can take many forms. It is not only physical violence and may include:

  • Physical abuse
  • Emotional or psychological abuse
  • Coercive or controlling behaviour
  • Sexual abuse
  • Financial abuse
  • Stalking and harassment
  • Online or digital abuse

It may be ongoing or escalate over time, and it can affect adults, young people and children.

If you live or work in Bournemouth, Christchurch or Poole and need support with domestic abuse, help is available. Local services and the National Domestic Abuse Helpline (24 hours a day, 0808 2000 247) offer free, confidential advice, safety planning and ongoing support. Safer BCP Partnership

Safer BCP works with BCP Council, Dorset Police, The Probation Service, Health Partners, and voluntary and community organisations to prevent domestic abuse, protect survivors and children, and hold perpetrators to account.

Tackling domestic abuse is a priority within the wider Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) CSP agenda, and community safety approach across BCP Council area.
